The Nigeria immigration Service is a well respected Commission and recently launched a public campaign sensitization of mitigating corruption and improving service delivery in Nigeria to create public awareness and demands any passport applicant to come forth with concrete evidence whenever they have any obstacle or challenges in processing their passports.

However, NIS has debunked that the two officers of Nigeria immigration Service [NIS] office in Alausa, Lagos, had extorted the sum of N15,000 from Ayomide Azeez, an applicant, whose passports registration was full of errors in his NIN,which was needed to be rectified.

Adding that, Ayomide Azeez was no where to be found after filling the forms with third party agent at the office premises in Alausa.

When inquired from the two officers involved, they said that there was no way they could go ahead with the processing of Ayomide Azeez passport without reaching out to him to correct the mistakes he made in the some of the information presented earlier to process the passport meant to be ready soon after paying N65,000 to the third-party agent.

Although the biometric registration was successfully done on said date upon the completion of the biometric capture, he was told to return on June 19 to receive his international passport unfortunately, the passport was not ready due to the errors in his registration form submitted ealier on.

On the issue of missing files, the two officers disclosed that they could not proceed in processing the document which was full of errors afterward when Ayomide had not surface due to AR (Afis reject) problem.

The two immigration officers stated further that they were just trying to assist Ayomide Azeez to get his passport ready on time by starting all over again to reprocess his registration document through the third agent.

According to the immigration officer; ‘The boy made a mistake and we were trying to help and correct the errors’.

On the efforts to reach the management on the matter proved abortive.
