Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, yesterday paraded 63 suspects arrested for sundry crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, sexual assault and drug trafficking.
Fayoade, who used the opportunity to give an account of his 100 days in office, said the police under his watch in the state will pay special action to high-risk areas.
The police boss noted that policing Lagos State deserves extra commitment and dedication to duty, pledging to ensure that Lagosians enjoy their sleep.
He noted that since he assumed office, a total of 4,502 motorcycles plying on restricted routes have been impounded and handed over to the state for crushing.
He also said 2,329 suspects have been arrested for crimes, ranging from cultism to armed robbery, leading to the recovery of stolen property, while about 2,253 of them have been prosecuted and others are being processed for prosecution.
He said: “Since assumption of office a lot of measures were put in place to forestall crimes and criminality in the state and make a thriving hub for socio-economic activities.
“Lagos is the economic hub of not only Nigeria but the whole of Africa, so we want to ensure that criminal activities are reduced to zero to allow for seamless economic activities.
“We have told the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) that they have no reason to go to their houses to sleep. That’s to say there is enough police visibility in all corners of the state.
“Criminals are always watching areas where there is not enough police visibility so that they can strike. That’s why our men must, as a point of duty, commitment and dedication, be on for 24 hours every day. They must ensure that no area is left porous for criminals to operate.
“Our resolve is to ensure that Lagos is peaceful to promote thriving social and economic activities.”
