Some residents of Ago Palace way, in Okota area of Lagos have refuted claims of increase in the rate of kidnapping in the area, delineate it as the handiwork of unscrupulous elements to attain their selfish motives.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police command attached to the Ago Palace way have intensified effective security arrangement within its jurisdiction to  forestall activities of criminal elements.

The fresh security arrangement followed unconfirmed reports that suspected kidnapping gang visited the area recently and also made attempt in some parts of the state. Operation which was foiled following quick response by team of police operatives who respond swiftly on receiving the information.

However, residents of Ago palace have commended the police for stepping up security by positioning security men at every strategic location in the area, especially conducting intensive stop and search on every car which have more than two occupants.

Investigation carried out by team of Journalists who visited Ago palace area at day time and at night revealed that the police are on stand by and the security architecture put in place remains very intact, as the area is currently very tight for any criminal to  penetrate both day and night.

Some residents who spoke to the Journalists debunked a recent report of series of kidnapping activities in the area as published online in one of the National dailies.

According to them, the report was cooked up by mischief makers, who wanted to disrupt the peace and to bring down the image of the police who are currently partnering with the host community resulting in bursting criminal black spots in the area. The area has been peaceful and there was no threat of insecurity.

For instance, a man who died in his car in the area, suspected to be heart attack, in no time, the police discovered the incident and promptly evacuated the corpse. So, this signified that the Police are on ground as they acted immediately.

Also, the report which claimed that a popular car dealer who lives behind Super Saver Super market “not Super Silver Supermarket” was kidnapped in the area was found to be untrue as no one was abducted behind the Super market and other places mentioned in the report.

A business man in the area who simply gave his name as Ugochukwu Eze said  ‘there is adequate security in Ago Palace way because police are working hard everyday, both day and night, any report of high rate of kidnapping is a fabricated lies, story false alarm”.

Another bus driver who maintained anonymity said’ the police in this area are trying their best since, after the election, cases relating to heinous crime have reduced drastically these Policemen are always on ground and they respond to distress calls at any time.

 “The leadership of the commissioner of Police, that has put all his men under his toes to work more effectively and they should be commended”.
