Police Rescue 12 Kidnapped Victims, Recover N10.3m, Foil Bandit, Seize Arms
As IGP Commends Bravery, Resilience of Officers in combating crimes
The Nigeria Police Force has showcased its commitment to public safety and combating crime through a series of successful operations. The operations, conducted across multiple states, have achieved significant outcomes: 3 suspected terrorists apprehended, considerable amounts of cash, arms, and ammunition recovered, and kidnapped victims freed.
According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Spokesperson, police operatives in Imo State have maintained their operational tempo against security threats. On April 17, 2025, around 1:02 AM, a joint team of police and local vigilantes, acting on intelligence, raided a suspected IPOB/ESN hideout on Cameron Street, Ubahu, in Okigwe LGA.
When the operatives arrived, the suspected terrorists fired, sparking a gun battle. Three suspects were apprehended: Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent, 21; Ugwu Ikenna, 31; and Ofor Kasarachi, 37. The police recovered one AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges, mobile devices, laptops, and ₦10.3 million in cash, believed to be ransom proceeds.
In another development in Edo State, police operatives swiftly responded to the abduction of 10 students en route to Backcock University for the GYC Africa conference on April 16, 2025. Tracking the kidnappers, the police engaged them in an intense gun battle.
The operation led to the rescue of the 10 students, with one kidnapper neutralized. Furthermore, on April 18, 2025, around 21:15hrs, the police successfully rescued 2 other victims who were kidnapped from Oluoke community on April 14, 2025.
One kidnapper was neutralized, and the 10 victims were rescued without harm. In a separate operation on April 18, 2025, at 21:15hrs, police operatives rescued 2 additional kidnapped victims who were abducted from their Oluoke community residence on April 14, 2025.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers for their bravery, dedication, and professionalism, reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and respecting human rights.
The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to ensure public safety and security, and will persist in its efforts to tackle crime.
