Comptroller Frank Onyeka of the Tincan Island Port Command has reinforced the importance of thorough cargo examinations before consignment release.

Speaking during a parade on February 25, 2025, he directed officers to ensure diligent inspections to minimize stop-and-search actions after departure.

“National security must be prioritized in all decisions,” Onyeka emphasized, urging officers to remain committed to Customs processes that enhance trade facilitation while ensuring security compliance.

Commendation for Officers and Capacity-Building Plans

He commended the workforce for their January revenue performance, encouraging them to uphold high standards.

Additionally, he announced upcoming capacity-building workshops to enhance officers’ knowledge and improve stakeholder collaboration.

On professionalism, Onyeka cautioned officers against misconduct, stating that reports of unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated.

Engagements with APFLON and DSS Director

In a separate engagement, Comptroller Onyeka welcomed the newly deployed Director of State Services (DSS), Mr. SM Kayode, and the Executive Chairman of APFLON, Alhaji Akeem Ayibojo, along with members of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFLON) during their familiarization visits.

These visits reaffirmed the commitment to fostering smooth port operations and preventing harmful imports.

Commitment to Customs Innovation and Stakeholder Education

Responding to technical concerns raised by APFLON, Onyeka reiterated the Command’s alignment with the Comptroller General of Customs’ three core mandates: collaboration, consolidation, and innovation.

“The Command is repositioned towards promoting the three core mandates of the Comptroller General of Customs, which are to collaborate, consolidate, and innovate, towards creating a safe and conducive working environment that will not pose a threat to the Nation and its citizenry,” he stated.

Additionally, he encouraged stakeholders to enhance their understanding of Customs’ new policies, particularly the soon-to-be-launched B’Odogwu Clearance System by Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.

This system is expected to boost efficiency in Customs operations at Tincan Island Port.
