The Oyo State Police Command is setting the record straight about a recent incident involving a farmer and herders in Ilowa-Gbade Village, Atiba Local Government Area. Contrary to alarming claims circulating on social media, the police assert that the information shared is a gross exaggeration of what actually happened.

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, clarified that initial investigations into the March 21, 2025, incident revealed a dispute over grazing rights between two individuals. A 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu, got into an altercation when Isiaka grazed his cattle on Tiamiyu’s cassava farmland.

The confrontation turned violent, leaving Isiaka with a severe head injury and Tiamiyu with significant injuries, including the loss of two fingers on his left hand.

Both Salau Isiaka and Akinkunmi Tiamiyu are currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital. Meanwhile, a comprehensive investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department at Iyaganku.

The Oyo State Police Command is appealing to the public to avoid spreading unverified and false information that can create panic and disrupt public order. This is part of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state. They emphasize that spreading such misinformation can incite fear and disturb the peace, and therefore urge everyone to be responsible with the information they share
