IGP Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Protecting Press Freedom and Civic Space

As IGP Partners with Media to Combat Disinformation and Promote Accurate Information

 

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting press freedom and civic space. This assurance came after a courtesy visit from the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and media organizations in promoting transparency and accountability within a democratic society.

According to Force Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a recent visit by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun, was marked by expressions of appreciation and support. The DG of VON commended IGP Egbetokun’s leadership and the Force’s proactive efforts since his assumption of office.

The DG also highlighted the crucial role the police play in maintaining public safety and order. Moreover, he voiced strong support for the IGP’s mandate to combat disinformation and misinformation that can negatively impact public perception of the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.

IGP Egbetokun thanked the Voice of Nigeria (VON) for acknowledging the crucial role the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) plays in protecting citizens’ lives and property. He also appreciated VON’s offer to utilize its platform to promote a positive image of the Force and combat the spread of misinformation and fake news. This partnership aims to foster transparency, accountability, and a more informed public perception of the NPF.
