…LASTMA Clears Five Multiple Collisions at Ikoyi and Lekki-Ajah During Night Traffic Surveillance

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is stepping up its efforts to ensure seamless traffic flow during the upcoming New Year festivities. As part of this initiative, LASTMA will expand its night-time traffic management and monitoring operations across key commercial zones, including Lekki-Ajah, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and other high-traffic areas within the city.

According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, this strategic move aims to prevent disruptions and ensure smooth transit along major thoroughfares, particularly during the holiday season when traffic is expected to surge.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the agency’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of all road users. He urged motorists to exhibit increased discipline and responsibility while on the roads, reminding them to adhere to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

In a recent incident, LASTMA officers successfully rescued a young woman involved in a severe solo accident near the Gbagada Bridge. Preliminary investigations revealed that the five occupants of the Toyota Matrix (registration JJJ 165 FG) were all heavily intoxicated, contributing to the driver’s impaired state, loss of concentration, and ultimately, the vehicle’s collision with a nearby culvert.

The injured woman, who sustained a severe laceration to her left hand, was rapidly transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment, with security personnel providing critical assistance and support throughout the rescue operation.

LASTMA’s efforts demonstrate their dedication to ensuring Lagos roads remain safe, navigable, and orderly, providing residents and visitors with a smooth experience during the festive season.
