The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Female Elite Corps recently paid a courtesy visit to Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at the State House, Marina, Lagos. The visit, led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, was aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between the agency and the Office of the First Lady.

According to the statement, the First Lady emphasized the importance of health awareness among LASTMA personnel, given the hazardous nature of their duties. She noted that the agency’s officers are constantly exposed to vehicular emissions, noise pollution, and other environmental hazards, which can have severe consequences on their health.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu advocated for regular medical evaluations, particularly of the respiratory system, to mitigate the risks posed by prolonged exposure to these hazards. She stressed that the health and well-being of LASTMA officers are paramount, as they play a critical role in maintaining order and safety on Lagos roads.

The First Lady also emphasized the need for digital literacy among LASTMA officers, particularly mothers. She urged them to ensure that they and their children acquire proficiency in computer and internet usage, which are indispensable skills in today’s digital era.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu encouraged the Female Elite Corps to foster ambition and strategic goal-setting within their families, ensuring that their children achieve purposeful lives. She noted that the agency’s officers are role models, not just for their families, but also for the wider society.

In addition to these issues, Her Excellency reiterated her office’s advocacy priorities, including addressing societal challenges such as sexual harassment, child abuse, and gender equity. She reaffirmed her dedication to initiatives that strengthen family values and societal development.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki shed light on the vision behind the establishment of the LASTMA Female Elite Corps. He explained that the unit was designed to intensify public education on responsible driving practices, particularly during the ember months – a period marked by increased road traffic incidents.

Mr. Bakare-Oki highlighted LASTMA’s recent strides in public engagement and operational efficiency. He noted that the launch of the agency’s Toll-Free Call Centre has been instrumental in fostering seamless communication between the agency and the public, enabling LASTMA to promptly address traffic-related concerns.

The General Manager further underscored the agency’s steadfast commitment to ensuring commuters reach their destinations safely and efficiently, while continuously enhancing road traffic management strategies.
