A three-storey building located at No. 20 Amusu Street, Baale, Orile Iganmu, Lagos, collapsed due to its deteriorated condition. Fortunately, all occupants were safely evacuated prior to the incident, following proactive warnings issued by relevant authorities.

According to Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), residents had been advised earlier about the imminent collapse but were initially uncooperative.

The LASEMA Response Team (LRT) arrived promptly at the scene. In order to avoid more damages to other buildings at the area. Moreso, the adjacent building has been cordoned off, and an evacuation order has been issued.

Emergency responders in attendance at the scene includes, LASG FIRE, LASBCA, and the Nigeria Police Force are working together to clear the site. Operation ongoing at the scene to evacuate debris of the collapsed building to prevent secondary incidents at the scene,and other operations to ensure public safety.

This incident highlights the importance of heeding warnings from authorities and prioritizing building maintenance to prevent such tragedies.

A distressed storey building already marked for demolition has collapsed in Orile-Iganmu.

No casualty was recorded as the building had been evacuated two weeks before the incident. In fact, it had been marked for demolition.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Fire Service , Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Police are at the scene to ensure there are no secondary incidents.
