Ogun State Police Command display guns, cartridges submitted by repentant cultists in Sagamu.

The Ogun State Police Command, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, displayed various guns and live cartridges  submitted by some cultists who have been offered amnesty by the command.

The Command announced this on its X handle, wrote that the Ogun Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu, was in Sagamu on Tuesday to mop up the arms and ammunition submitted by the cultists.

Cultism is more prevalent in Sagamu, the recent violent attacks had claimed the lives of many residents. The state government has also intervened by imposing curfew in the town to checkmate the attacks.

However, in December last year, some leaders of the cult groups were said to have written a letter of apology to the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, expressing their desire to end all forms of cult clashes.
Ever since then, the number of cult clashes in Sagamu had reduced drastically.

The State Police Command also announced that there will be amnesty for any member of cult groups who wishes to surrender the guns and ammunition in their possession, as they will not be prosecuted after surrendering the guns. On Tuesday, the command displayed the various guns and live cartridges submitted by some of the cultists.

In the photograph displayed on its X handle, guns of various sizes were said to have been submitted by the cultists, while the Police Commissioner, Mr Biodun Alamutu has expressed happiness over the turn of events in the town.
