Lagos State Police Spokesperson, SP Ben Hundeyin confirms increasing cases of one chance robberies in Alapere, Ketu, Ogudu , Oworonsoki, other areas.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Monday confirmed on his X handle the increasing cases of one chance robberies in some parts of the state.

He specifically mentioned places such as Oworonshoki, Ketu, Ogudu and Alapere where the issue of one chance robberies resurfacing.

‘One-chance’ a common term in Nigeria for fraud or scam. It is the name Nigerians use for a form of robbery that takes place in both commercial and private vehicles when people accept the offer of a ride

It is an organised crime, perpetrated by people who work together, using a strategy of hailing passengers into their waiting vehicle.

After the unsuspecting residents have boarded the vehicles, they are robbed of their valuables after which some are pushed out of the vehicles while others may be kidnapped and made to empty their bank accounts.Many Nigerians have fallen victims to ‘One Chance’.

However, noting on the development on Monday, Hundeyin revealed that the command had got information about the reoccurrence of the menace, adding that officers of the command shall be embarking on increased checks in these areas which may result in some delays or minimal traffic congestion.

He wrote: “Our daily situation reports have indicated a resurfacing of one-chance robberies in Oworonshoki, Alapere, Ogudu and Ketu.
“To stem this ugly trend, the Lagos State Police Command shall be embarking on increased checks in these areas which may result in some delays or minimal traffic buildup.

“We appeal to motorists for their understanding as this is in the interest of their safety and security.”
