The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 1,897 senior Police officers to the next rank.

Among the notable officers promoted on January 23, 2024, included AIG Dasuki Galadanci, AIG in-charge of Zone 12 Bauchi, who has been promoted to a deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) to represent the North-West geopolitical zone of the country.

Galadanci will replace DIG Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, who is expected to retire on February 2 this year.

The commission also elevated 14 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors-general of Police. However, one of the Commissioners for promotion to AIG was stepped down to enable the Commission review the pending disciplinary matters against the officer, which was sent to the PSC by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The new AIGs are; Yetunde Longe, CP Eastern Ports, Port Harcourt; Haruna Gabriel Garba, CP Federal Capital Territory; Tajudeen Akinwale Abass, CP Delta State; Rex Dundun, CP General Investigation, FCID Annex Kaduna; Durosinmi Olatoye, CP Akwa Ibom State; Afolabi Babatola Adeniyi, CP Adamawa State; Abiodun Oladimeji Asabi, CP Ondo State; CP Julius Alawari Okoro; CP Plateau State; George Chijioke Chuku, CP Benue State; Paul Alifa Omata, CP K9 Force Headquarters; Yusuf Adesina Akeem, CP Research and Development, Force Headquarters; Bzigu Yakabu Kwazhi Dali, CP Osun State; Idris Nagoyo, Police Mounted Troop Squadron and CP Ogundare Dare .

The commission also promoted 21 deputy commissioners of police to the substantive rank of commissioners; 20 assistant commissioners to deputy commissioners, 109 chief superintendents to assistant commissioners and 184 superintendents to chief superintendents.

It also considered and approved the promotion of 1,549 assistant superintendents to deputy superintendents.

Spokesperson of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, on Wednesday, said the chairman of the commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, who presided over the management meeting of the commission, had accordingly given anticipatory approval for the appointment of one DIG and promotion of 1,897 senior police officers recommended to the commission by the inspector-general of police.

The 14 commissioners of police and 21 deputy commissioners appeared before the management of the commission for an interactive promotion interview, a condition precedent for their elevation to the next ranks.

Ani further stated that at the interactive session, Arase charged the officers to quickly settle down to their new ranks and go forth and win the war against banditry, kidnapping and violent crimes in the country.

 

Passport will be available in two weeks after online application – Comptroller General.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has assured Nigerians that passports will be ready in two weeks after online application.

The Comptroller General of the Service, Wura-Ola Adepoju stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.

According to Adepoju, it will take two weeks between the point of ap6plication for green passports to be produced.

She stated, “Because of the screening, that is why we are looking at two weeks as timeframe from the point of application to the point of production.”

The NIS boss lamented that there were so many uncollected passports at the Ikoyi office of the Service.

She also said Nigerians would be able to renew their travel passports without human contact effective March 8, 2024.

The Immigration boss said, “From March 8, everyone applying for renewal will be doing contactless application because for people who have the Nigerian passports, we have their data, we have their biometrics.

“So, from the comfort of their homes, they can apply for renewal or re-issue of their passports and they would be able to deploy their biometrics like their fingerprints which we will now compare with what we have in our database. If everything goes well, then we will be able to issue them the passports they applied for.”

Recall that the Service had earlier said over 46,000 applications have been received since January 8, 2024 when it began automation of the passport application process.

“We are making it as seamless as possible. From inception, that’s January 8 which was when we went live, we’ve received over 46,000 applications (both fresh and renewal),” she said while appealing to Nigerians to input the right information on the Service’s website.

Adepoju also added that there is provision for change of data on the portal for passport application. On whether immigration officials would lose their jobs, she said, “No, the objective of the automation is to make things seamless, the comfort of our application and national security.”

“From March 8, all the people applying for renewal will be able to do contactless biometric capturing.”
On efforts put in place to ensure non-Nigerians do not get the green passport, Nandap said, “We are meeting with critical stakeholders such NPC and ALGON because an average Nigerian will have to go to their local government to get their certificate of indigeneship.

“We are working tirelessly with these stakeholders to make sure that they also have a proper way of documenting these certificates because they give us these certificates that we use.

“Even if we say it’s seamless and contactless, we still have officers on ground to do secondary checks to ensure that the person sitting in front of you to be captured for biometrics is actually a Nigerian. we have different levels of checks and ways to making sure that nobody who is a non-Nigerian gets our passport.”
