The Rivers State house of assembly has declares the seat of 25 lawmakers loyal to former governor, Nyesom Wike vacant. This is coming after they defected to the All Progressive Congress earlier this week in protest against the governor, Sim Fubara.
The house of assembly which sat today under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie declared their sit vacant.
The assembly will also officially communicate to INEC on the vacant seats of the State Constituencies and the need to conduct fresh elections to fill up the vacant seats. Rivers State House of Assemby has only 6 members officially recognized by law.
IGP Flags Off 4-Day PPRO’s Conference In Uyo, Acknowledges Governor Umo Eno’s Support.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday 11th December 2023, officially inaugurated the 4-day Police Public Relations Officers Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The event, which is being organized in partnership with the German Government Federal Foreign Office through the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) as part of its support for the Police reform process in Nigeria, as stated by Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, is designed to enhance strategic communication within the law enforcement community, and was met with enthusiasm and support from various stakeholders.
According to him, the Conference for Police Public Relations Officers and Public Relations Experts in the Force themed “Enhanced Strategic Communication: Panacea for Effective Policing in Nigeria”, accentuates the pressing need for improved communication strategies within the law enforcement community to address contemporary challenges and gaps in communication between the Police and the people.
“The conference aims to equip Police Public Relations Officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to foster positive relationships between the police force and the public”, he said.
The Honourable Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris Malagi, fnipr, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized the need to constantly evolve with the times in communications to dispel wrongly-held notions about the NPF. Similarly, the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam, CON, and the Chairman, Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon E. Arase, CFR, both pledged to pursue policies and interventions to help sharpen and reposition the NPF in achieving the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.
The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Bassey Eno, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the Conference, declared the conference open and assured of his continuous support for the Police as a strategic instrument for securing the good people of Akwa Ibom State, a critical factor for the State’s progress and development.
The Inspector-General of Police expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support in hosting the significant conference, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts between the Police Force and the State Government for improved and organized policing of the State, and other parts of the country.
Other distinguished guests who graced the occasion include the DIG South-South, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, mni; AIG Jonathan Towuru, mni, the AIG Zone 6 Calabar; the Commissioner of Police in charge of Akwa Ibom, CP Durosimi Olatoye; the President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo, MFR; the Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Prof Emmanuel Dandaura, fnipr; the National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan; other distinguished guests, media executives, and relevant stakeholders.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, fCAI, extolled the IGP for his staunch commitment to fostering positive police-public relationships and his focus on transparency, communication, and collaboration, all of which are pivotal in building trust and understanding between the NPF and the communities they serve.
As part of activities to mark the IGP’s visit to Akwa Ibom State, IGP Egbetokun visited the Akwa Ibom State Police Command where he, alongside the Executive Governor of the State, commissioned some projects including a smart conference hall for the Command.
“The IGP equally addressed the officers and men of the Command, exhorting them to embrace a people-friendly approach to policing to achieve cohesive and all-inclusive policing.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase, on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, charged Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) across the state commands, zonal commands and departments of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that they are accessible to the public, including the media, and also make themselves available as well as answer calls.
Dr. Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, said that they should also be aware that to make a success of their assignment “you are not supposed to be the boss but the servant of the people who are constantly seeking for information.”
The PSC chairman stated: “What you do or not tells on the image of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Dr Arase, who was represented by the Head, Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, who gave the message to the media on the sidelines of the opening Ceremony of the Annual Conference of the Police Public Relations Officers holding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The PSC Chairman, according to Ani, said that the work of PPROs at any level “is challenging and calls for dedication and commitment.
He enjoined them to “live up to the original essence of communication which is to share commonness, and the greatest ingredient of such commonness can be located in deep trust of the citizens; a trust that is founded on the reality that information from them are treated upon on the strictest confidence.”
Dr Arase, who said that information sharing had become a compelling imperative more than ever before “since crime has become a mobile enterprise,” noted that he was happy that the management of the NPF had kept faith with the annual conference which brings together all the serving PPROs to a round table to brainstorm on the way forward on information management.
“This, to me, is very critical to the success of policing in a diverse Nigerian environment,” he stated.
He also emphasized the importance of the conference in advancing effective policing in Nigeria which he said could not have come at a better time.
Dr Arase said that the operating environment was already in a flux, compelling the NPF to not only rapidly adapt but also strive to stay ahead of the curve of changing public opinion.
“We should not only react to public opinion, but should anticipate and shape public opinion. We must be proactive,” he said.
He enjoined the participants to note that globalisation and democratisation of information and a raft of other developments in the operating environment of the Nigeria Police Force “have combined to demand a review of our engagement with our various publics in order to get the support we need to succeed in the discharge of our duties in our modern, sophisticated world.
He added: “Public Relations is more than a one-way communication; our interface with the public must place a premium on the feedback channels for a more rounded and rewarding engagement.”
He promised that the Police Service Commission would continue to support the Nigeria Police Force in the effective and efficient discharge of its duties as the lead agency in internal security “and will, in our communication to the public, continue to highlight the success stories of the Police. In partnership, we will achieve greater success.”
IGP Egbetokun Appionts CP Fayoade Adegoke as New Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
The Inspector General Police, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the posting of CP Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha to Lagos State Police Command.

CP Adegoke who just graduated from National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos is to take over from DCP Waheed Ayilara who had been incharge on the command in an acting capacity.
Adegoke was divisional police officer in charge of Ilupeju and Ajao Estates divisions at some point in his career. He was also Area Commander Sango Area Command, Ogun State and Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration at Zone 2 Command headquarters, Onikan.
The officer also headed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.
After his promotion, Adegoke was posted to head the NPF armament department before he was enlisted to study for one year at the prestigious NIPSS.
The Lagos State Commissioner, CP Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke mni, is among the Executive Course 45, 2023 that graduated and honoured with the mni title at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru-Jos, Plateau State Nigeria.
Also deployed is CP Umar Shehu Nadada who is to head Nassarawa state command.
