FEC approves N27.5trllion for 2024 Budget.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a sum of N27.5 trillion aggregate expenditure for the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, disclosed this after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja on Monday.

The minister said further details of the budget will be released when President Tinubu makes his presentation of the budget to the National Assembly, just as he said the targeted revenue for next year is N18 trillion.

He further disclosed that the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which had been passed by the National Assembly, was further reviewed. Bagudu said:

“The federal executive council considered the 2024 Appropriation bill. The MTEF was earlier approved by the National Assembly. It has an exchange rate of N700 to a dollar and a crude oil benchmark of $73.

“To improve revenue, the council further reviewed the MTEF, with an exchange rate of N750 to a dollar, and a crude oil benchmark of $77. This will significantly improve revenue.”

 

Power supply won’t blink in my State until end of my tenure — Governor boasts.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has pledged the commitment of his administration to ensure that there is consistent power supply across the state till its tenure expires in four years time.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels TV Sunday Politics, the governor said: “The fact is that in the next four years, my target is to ensure we implement our ‘Light Up Ogun State’ project, where before I leave office, the light will not blink in Ogun State.”

Giving an account of his first term as governor of the southwest state, Abiodun stated that his government rebuilt or renovated over 1,000 schools.

“Over 1,000 schools have been rebuilt or renovated in four years,” he said on the current affairs show, adding that his government has also built roads, and hospitals and helped in the creation of job opportunities for the teeming masses.

He also stated that Ogun State is one of the few states in the country that can survive without dependence on allocations from the federal government.

“I am sure that you are aware of a recent release by Budgit that showed Ogun State as the number one in the most improved for internally generated revenue – by miles ahead of any other state.

“At the same time, we are also, I believe, maybe number five or seven on the list of most resilient states and one of the few states that can actually survive peradventure there is no allocation from the Federal Government.”

Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, last Friday, dismissed the appeal by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Ladi Adebutu, and affirmed Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected governor of Ogun State in the March 18 Poll.

Police Arrest Mastermind Behind Dangote Cement Price-Slash Scam.

The Lagos State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in apprehending Benjamin Ezeukwe, a 28-year-old individual responsible for orchestrating an elaborate scam that defrauded numerous unsuspecting Nigerians in a deceitful cement-price-slash scheme.

Benjamin Ezeukwe was apprehended on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State.

According to a statement issued by Lagos PPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, who that noted that the arrest followed an extensive investigation conducted by officers from the Area A Command of the State Command. Among the items seized from him were one Tecno phone, one iPhone, three SIM cards, including the one registered under the number 08039691980 that he utilized for the fraudulent activity, and a Toyota Avalon identified as proceeds from his criminal activities.

The scam, initiated by the suspect in September 2023, involved the creation of a misleading online advertisement allegedly from Dangote Cement, falsely promoting a substantial price reduction. Tragically, numerous unsuspecting customers fell victim to this fraudulent scheme, resulting in the loss of millions of Naira.

Further investigation has uncovered several similar scams orchestrated by the suspect. Benjamin Ezeukwe has been arraigned as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

 

Police deny torture as Suspect dies in its custody.

Police in Ogun on Sunday denied torturing a suspected cultist who died in their custody.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday that the suspect died in police cell, but not as a result of torture.

“Torture is strictly against our protocols and principles. Ogun police command is well-versed in the legal framework that safeguards the rights of individuals in custody,’’ she stated.

She explained that police arrested one Seyi Oduyiga and Gbenga Adejoke, suspected notorious cultists and members of cult groups – Buccaneer and Eiye Confraternity.
“For the records, the deceased was already charged for cult-related activities and was taken to a special court on cultism in Abeokuta on Thursday.

“The court did not sit, however, and he was returned to police headquarters on the same day. “Oduyiga was to be taken to court at its next sitting which was on Friday.

“However, at about 5 a.m. on the same Friday, he went berserk, shouting, gnashing his teeth, and assaulting other suspects in the cell until he got exhausted.

“Other suspects in the cell alerted policemen on duty and he was taken to the police hospital and later to Ijaye General Hospital, Abeokuta, alongside suspects that he had bitten.

“Other suspects were treated and discharged, but Oduyiga while on medical attention, later gave up the ghost,’’ Odutola stated.
She added that police had ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of Oduyiga’s death and would make the result public.

 

Protests rock Kano over Appeal Court judgement.

Protests erupted in Kano city and its environs on Monday afternoon with the demonstrators denouncing the recent judgment of the Court Appeal that sacked the state Governor, Abba Yusuf.

According to reports, uneasy calm pervaded the state capital following a contradictory Certified True Copy of Appeal Court that affirmed the prayers of both the appellant and the respondent in the contentious Kano governorship, though the judiciary had since cleared the air.

In what appeared like a coordinated action on Monday, huge crowd of protesters had stormed strategic positions in the city as it visited temporary hiccups on commercial activities.

Kano- Zaria road, Maiduguri road by Muhammadu Buhari’s interchange, and Kantin Kwari (Kano textile market) were taken over by hundreds of youths who called for justice for Abba Yusuf.

The placard reads “Kano my city my state”, “Justice for Kano”, ” Justice for Abba”, “Abba’s mandate was stolen in 2019, we will not allow it happen in 2023”.

The protest came on the heels of discovery by the Police that “some faceless group are bent on unleashing violence in Kano”, stressing that the police were on top of the situation.

CP Hussaini Gumel told newsmen in Kano on Monday that already 7 suspects had been arrested and would be arraigned soon.

CP Gumel revealed that “we have the understanding with the leadership of the contending political parties, and they have signed a peace pact, in view of that therefore, any one found outside this arrangement will be treated as common criminal”.

However, normalcy had since returned to the ancient city following the peaceful protest that lasted several hours. (NAN)

Ondo: Tinubu’s intervention window dressing, crisis not over – PDP.

Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the crisis between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa as a mere window dressing.

PDP said the political crisis is not over because Akeredolu “remains in hiding.”Kennedy Peretei, the spokesman of the party said this in a statement after Tinubu invited Aiyedatiwa and other concerned parties to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting was aimed at settling the political feud in the state following Akeredolu’s absence.
During the meeting, Tinubu called for a truce, while ensuring that the matter of impeachment was laid to rest. Reacting, Peretei said the internal party affair was having an effect on governance in the state.

He lamented the taxpayers’ money being deployed on what he called fruitless trips to Abuja. Peretei said: “Let us pray that the presidential intervention will not go the way of the Bello Masari Reconciliation Committee set up by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

“After several trips to Abuja at taxpayers’ expense, both parties returned to court despite promises to withdraw all cases.

“From what we have read about the outcome, Tinubu’s intervention is a mere window dressing.

“Out of respect for his office, the impeachment of the deputy governor will no longer see daylight, but as long as Akeredolu remains in hiding, it is not yet Uhuru, the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over.”

Step 1: Click the “Link your NIN And Meter” button.

The first step in the process is to visit the Ikeja Electric official website. Look for the “Link your NIN And Meter” button and click. This will redirect you to a dedicated portal that handles the NIN linking process.

Step 2: Get Your Phone Number, NIN, and Email Address Ready.

Before kick-starting, ensure your phone number, NIN, and email address are readily available. Double-check the accuracy of your NIN to ensure the information you provide is correct.

Step 3: Confirm You Inputted the Correct NIN Details.
