The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Barde.
IGP made this known on Sunday night during an appearance on Channels TV’s Peoples Townhall. According to Egbetokun, the purpose of changing the Imo police commissioner is to maintain impartiality, and not because he was found guilty of the charges brought against him.
Recall that the Labour Party (LP) had also backed demands for the CP and other officials who were allegedly involved in the recent attack on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in the state to be immediately redeployed.
Speaking further, Egbetokun said the Police have concluded a probe of electoral violations in the 2023 elections and forwarded same to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which has the power to prosecute.
The IGP disclosed that more gunboats and boats will be deployed for Bayelsa, Kogi polls, adding that no VIP would be allowed to move around with police escorts on election day.
Egbetokun asserted that violators of the directive would be promptly arrested. He also warned criminals to stay away from Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa elections, saying that it won’t be business as usual.
Egbetokun took the decision six days to the November 11, 2023 off-season polls in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi states. “I am aware that there have been allegations on social media against the Commissioner of Police in Imo State but for this election, we are changing the commissioner of police in Imo,” he said

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in a pivotal development ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election in Imo state on 11th November, 2023, has ordered the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mohammed Barde to the Force Headquarters on special duty.
The IGP’s decision to reshuffle the CP, as stated by the force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, underscores the Police Force’s unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law and maintaining strict neutrality throughout the electoral proceedings.
“This redeployment is not an indictment on the affected officer but is rather part of a broader strategy aimed at bolstering security measures, promoting transparency, and upholding the integrity of the electoral security management.
“The IGP is resolute in ensuring that a secure environment is provided for all stakeholders, political parties, candidates, and citizens to participate in the electoral process.
“He urges all and sundry to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies and adhere to the law in order to ensure a smooth and successful election while maintaining the principles of democracy”, Adejobi said.

Ahead of the forthcoming off cycle Gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States scheduled for 11th November, 2023, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has ordered the distribution of additional 220 operational vehicles, including water canons, Armored Personnel Carriers, helmets, bullet proof vests, tear gas canisters etc, to the 3 affected states to intensify security arrangements for the elections.
Force Spokesperson, ACP ,Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement disclosed that the IGP had earlier organised trainings for the police officers who are involved in the election security management for the forthcoming elections and sought the approval of the Federal Government for the payment of their allowances and other necessary support to boost the morale of the officers during the operations.
The IGP therefore urges all stakeholders in the 3 states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law and be law-abiding in their endeavours before, during and after the elections as the Police and other security agencies have been placed on alert to avert any unruly acts capable of disrupting the elections in any of the states.
You’re travelling on dangerous path – Asari Dokubo slams Tinubu over ‘lopsided-appointments’
Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has slammed President Bola Tinubu for not carrying him in his government.
Asari was one of the ardent supporters of Tinubu during the presidential election. At one point, the former militant even organised a pro-Tinubu protest in Port Harcourt and issued threats to some ethnic groups in the country who he felt were not in support of Tinubu’s presidency.
Asari Dokubo was later seen at the Presidential Villa, where he was said to have visited President Tinubu after his victory in the presidential election.
However, the Presidency banned ex-militants from visiting the Presidential Villa after that visit following some alleged derogatory comments made by Asari while addressing the press after meeting Tinubu.
In a trending video on social media, Dokubo lamented that he and his followers have been abandoned after giving their support to the cause of Tinubu’s emergence as president.
He also accused the president of making one-sided appointments, just like former President Muhammadu Buhari, who, according to Asari, had core supporters, which Tinubu does not have.
“President Bola Tinubu is traveling on a very dangerous path. And if he doesn’t change, even we, who are his hardcore supporters, will not be able to stand with him.
“It’s up to you if you feel comfortable now. They tell you that you can do whatever you like. You can do worse than what Buhari did. “Buhari did one-sided appointments, and you feel you can do your own one-sided appointments. You are not Buhari; know that.
“Buhari had a core followership, you do not have that sort of core followership. If there are core followers, we are your core followers.
“Those people who are now around, making decisions, making appointments, they were afraid to stand by you. If they were not afraid, they wouldn’t have contested for the House of Reps and so on.
“They actually believed you would not win the election. They were saying that a bird in hand is worth more than thousands in the bush.
“But we staked everything and stood by you. Today you brought them so that they laugh at us. They were afraid to offend people, but today they’re the masters.”
Alleged certificate forgery, Court delivers judgement in suit by NYSC against Enugu Gov, Mbah.
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday dismissed the allegations of forgery of a discharge certificate brought against the Enugu State Governor, Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo threw away the allegations following the inability of the Corps to prove and defend the allegations as required by law.
The judge, in a judgment in a suit by the governor against the NYSC, imposed a fine of N5 million on the Corps to be paid jointly to the plaintiff for suppressing facts and conspiring against him in the heinous allegations.
The court held that with the unchallenged evidence of the plaintiff on how the discharge certificate was issued to him in 2003 by NYSC after serving in a law firm in Lagos and the inability of the Corps to come up with counter-evidence, it was crystal clear that the plaintiff served the mandatory one-year service.
Among others, Justice Ekwo held that while the onus to prove forgery allegations lies heavily on the NYSC, it failed, leaving Mbah’s evidence heavier and more believable. Mbah had sued the NYSC and its Director, Corps Certification, Ibrahim Muhammad, for publishing a disclaimer, denying the issuance of a discharge certificate issued to him on January 6, 2003.
The NYSC had, on February. 1, written a letter signed by Ibrahim Muhammed saying that the Corps did not issue the NYSC certificate in Mbah”s possession.
Court Strikes Out Case Against Ondo Deputy Gov, Aiyedatiwa, Others, Directs Parties To Maintain Peace
The claimants in the case had sued four registrars of the High Court, the Deputy Governor, the House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House and the Chief Judge of Ondo State, claiming that the procedure of settlement and compilation of record of appeal for the hearing of the appeal filed by the Deputy Governor would infringe on their rights.
An Akure High Court on Monday struck out the suit filed by the Ondo State Government and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the compilation of record of appeal.
The claimants in the case had sued four registrars of the High Court, the Deputy Governor, the House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House and the Chief Judge of Ondo State, claiming that the procedure of settlement and compilation of record of appeal for the hearing of the appeal filed by the Deputy Governor would infringe on their rights.
When the case was called up on Monday before Justice D. I. Kolawole, the claimants through their counsel applied to withdraw the suit, claiming that events had overtaken the suit.
Responding, counsel for the Deputy Governor opposed the oral application to withdraw the suit, contending that issues had been joined by filing a defence to the suit and also a counter-claim.
In his ruling, the judge held that the rules of the Court permit the claimants to withdraw the suit and it was accordingly struck out.
Counsel for the Deputy Governor then urged the Court to direct parties to maintain the status quo in order to preserve the subject matter of the suit pending before the court.
The application was opposed by the counsel representing the House of Assembly.
Ruling on the application, the court directed all the parties to continue to maintain the peace and thereafter adjourned the case to November 22, 2023, for hearing of applications.

Music industry figures Sam Larry and Naira Marley have been granted bail, each required to provide three sureties with a substantial sum of 20 million naira.
As part of their bail conditions, the court asked them to surrender their international passports and make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Adding a unique warning, the magistrate overseeing the case sternly cautioned that any attempts to contact her directly would be recorded and potentially disclosed in open court proceedings.
The duo were arrested on their return to Nigeria after they were linked to the death of Mohbad.
Videos on social media had shown Larry physically assaulting the late Mobad, while other videos showed boys suspected to be under the orders of the Marley attacking the late rapper.
