Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has told officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and their counterparts in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Correctional and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) to upgrade themselves academically because they will no longer be elevated just for passing promotion examinations.

Tunji Ojo, who advised personnel of all the paramilitary agencies under his ministry‘s supervision to attend mandatory continuous professional development programmes in line with the career progression policy document of the federal government. The minister announced the establishment of a team tagged: Paramilitary Brain Trust (PBT).

He made the announcement at the presentation of 12 books co-authored by the commandant- general of the corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi and Prof Tyoor Terhemba in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo said the Paramilitary Brain Trust would be handled by public officers and professionals who would provide technical advice to the government through research and other academic endeavours.

Tunji-Ojo who commended the academic prowess of Audi, linked the latter‘s investment in education to what he termed as „his very impressive innovations at the NSCDC used in tackling insecurity, vandalism amongst others and charged his subordinates to follow suit.

While referring the paramilitary personnel to officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), he said: “The best of people you find in the FBI, MI6 all over the world in CIA, are all alumni of some of the best Institutions in the world.

He promised to personally ensure that all agencies under his ministry‘s supervision have a functional library for research.
Earlier, Audi said five of the books were completely written by him while the other seven were co-authored by associates.

Audi, who explained that his passion for excellence, maximum service delivery and his quest to impact knowledge on the nation‘s security structure, forced him into writing the books, which he started five years ago.

PSC promotes 12 CPs, 5706 others.

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 5718 senior police officers comprising those in general duties and specialist cadres of the Nigeria Police Force.

These include Commissioners of Police and Deputies who appeared before the Commission for promotion interview; a condition mandatory for their promotions.

The spokesperson for the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Thursday said the Commission approved the promotion of 12 Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police; 19 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police and 21 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Deputy Commissioners. This was as 33 Chief Superintendents of Police were also elevated to Assistant Commissioners.

The Commission further approved the promotion of 265 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents; 59 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents and 4750 Assistant Superintendents and another 146 Assistant Superintendents omitted during the May 2022 promotion exercise elevated to Deputy Superintendents.

For the Specialists adre, the Commission approved the promotion of two Assistant Commissioners of Police; one from Airwing and the other from Forensic to the next rank of Deputy Commissioners; 47 CSPs comprising 23 Medical Doctors and 24 Veterinary Doctors were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

One hundred and Ninety Superintendents of Police from the Computer Info-Tech Unit; another eight from Works; one workshop; twelve transport; two forensic; two handwriting; one ballistics; one religion and one Veterinary Doctor were also promoted.

Forty-seven Specialists of Assistant Superintendents of Police rank and of different Units were promoted to Deputy Superintendents.

Lagos CP, 11 others promoted to AIG.

The twelve Commissioners of Police promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police are, Ogundele Ayodeji, CP Niger State; CP Patrick Edung, CP Courses Police Academy Wudil Kano; CP Badru Lawal; Deputy Commandant, Police Academy Kano; CP Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka; CP Benue State; CP Suleiman Yusuf; CP Taraba State; CP Idowu Owohunwa; CP Lagos State and CP Rhoda Olofu; CP PAP Western Ports Lagos.

Others are CP Godwin Aghaulor; CMDT Police College Kaduna; CP Effiom Ekot CP Jigawa State; CP Stanley Kanayo-Chukwu Ude; CP Intelligence and Investigation, Interpol Abuja; CP Longe Patrick; CP Osun State and CP Ndu Anene, CP Admin Research and Planning Force Headquarters.

The 19 newly promoted Commissioners of Police are; DCP Shehu Abubakar; DCP Lawal Ayodeji; DCP Shelleng Yusuf; DCP Emmanuel Agene; DCP Alonyenu Iduh; DCP Vungmoh Kwaimo; DCP Danjuma Aboki; DCP Jude Azuka; DCP Dan-Sabo Idi; DCP Ibitoye Olajide and DCP Adamu Isa.

Others are DCP Usman Hayatu; DCP Christopher Emmanuel; DCP Nwanosike Okocha; DCP Johnson Adenola; DCP Olanrewaju Ihola; DCP Joseph Eribo; DCP Miller Dantawaye and DCP Henry Uche.

The newly promoted Deputy Commissioners include; Ime Udofia, Isyaku Sharu; Benjamin Abang; Mohammed Abubakar; Mohammed Ahmed; Dauda Ayuba; Moses Gana; Ikechukwu Nwosu; Promise Udeh and Okey Nwabufo.

The new Assistant Commissioners are Jacob Egede; Godwin Oti; Chike Ibe; Daniel Akpan and Michael Mbatam amongst others.

ACP Inuwa Muhammed (Airwing) and ACP Agbo Usman were promoted to Deputy Commissioners while CSP Okunbo Onyinmeare; Victor Iwuamadi; Adenuga Salami and Isibhakhomen Ijiomah (Medical Doctors) were some of the specialists promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners.

SPs Tina Amadi; Egbede Moses; Danjuma Dantani; Benjamin Kurya; Hussaine Abdullahi; Mba Bartholomew; John Ayah; Sanusi Danlami; Asinim Butswat, Police Public Relations Officer Bayelsa state; Command; Dieke Josephine; Mohammed Musa; Idris Gumel and Ernest Abia were some of the Superintendents promoted to Chief Superintendents of Police. DSP Isah Abubakar was promoted to the next rank of Superintendent while ASP Kingsley Ani and Shehu Salisu were promoted to Deputy Superintendents amongst several others.

The PSC Chairman, Solomon Arase, charged the newly promoted Officers to embrace a new policing culture that is hinged on a people-friendly approach that respects the fundamental rights of the citizens and warned that they should desist from involving themselves in civil matters or trumping up false allegations against the public “as such conduct will not make them win the hearts and minds of the people which will deprive them of credible information from public-spirited individuals when dealing with internal security issues.

He further commended the acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun for collaborating with the Commission in ensuring that for the first time in a very long while, the promotions have permeated all the departments of the Force.

“This singular act I hope will motivate the workforce to give back their best in ensuring that issues of crimes and criminality are properly dealt with”. He reminded them that they should remember that benefits and burdens go together adding that the good gesture of promoting them to the next rank should be a motivation that will ignite the indomitable fighting spirit which the Police have been known for throughout the years,” Ani quoted Arase in the statement.

The PSC Chairman further noted that while the Commission pushes for improved welfare for the officers, the police officers should reciprocate by conducting themselves within established laws and rules guiding the Police Force.

Tinubu appoints new EFCC Chairman.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, he said by the powers vested in President Tinubu as established in section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, that “the Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President.”

Ngelale said Olukoyede is a lawyer with over 22 years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant and specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence.

“He has extensive experience in the operations of the EFCC, having previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023). As such, he fulfills the statutory requirement for appointment as Chairman of the EFCC.

“Olukoyede’s appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa,” he said.
Furthermore, the presidential spokesman said President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda to serve as Secretary of the anti-graft Commission for a renewable term of five years in the first instance, pending Senate confirmation.

“Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda is a public administrator with extensive experience in public finance management who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same university.

“He began his career as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. From there, he went into banking, including successful stints at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
“President Bola Tinubu tasks the new leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to justify the confidence given to them in this important national assignment as a newly invigorated war on corruption undertaken through a reformed institutional architecture in the anti-corruption sector remains a central pillar of the President’s Renewed Hope agenda,” he said.

Police Command impounds 10 vehicles allegedly for engaging in “one chance” activities

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it had impounded 10 vehicles suspected to have been used for “one chance” activities in the territory.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Mr Haruna Garba, said this during a media briefing on Friday in Abuja.
He said the vehicles were impounded by the newly created ‘Anti-One Chance Squad’ of the command to curb the menace of “one chance” activities within the FCT.

According to him, most of the vehicles impounded had tinted glasses on them and during searches, axes, cutlasses and knives,
ostensibly for use in carrying out their criminal activities were recovered from the vehicles.

He said the three suspects who arrested in connection with the seizure of the vehicles were currently under investigation.
Garba said that operatives of the command from Zuba Division, on Oct. 8 arrested three suspects over alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

He said the suspects were arrested following a distress call about some strange and suspicious movements around the Zuba fruit market.

“Police operatives from Zuba Division swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested a suspect, who upon sighting the police operatives took to his heels.
“He was given a hot chase and apprehended by police operatives. “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a 5-man gang and later led the police operatives to the arrest of two of his gang members.

“Two AK-47 rifles, two magazines and 35 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the houses of the suspects. “The suspects are cooperating with police authority to arrest the rest of the gang members,” he said.

The CP said 62 cases of alleged disapperance of male organs had been reported in the FCT since the first case was reported in Gwagwalada on Sept. 21.

Garba said 51 suspects had been charged to court for giving false information and inciting public disturbance in connection to male organ disappearance.

“To this end, I want to reiterate my commitment and willingness to always work with FCT residents to defeat crime in all its forms in the territory,” he said. (NAN).

LAGOS POLICE ARREST FRAUD SYNDICATE

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected fraudsters at Iyana Church Bus stop, Lagos after receiving credible information from concerned citizens.

According to a press statement signed by SP Benjamin  Hundeyin,Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command,
Ikeja, who noted that the suspects, Orji Chinedu ‘m’ aged 38, Uche Godwin ‘m’ aged 37 and Ifeoma Nathaniel ‘f’ aged 51 years, who were arrested on October 9, 2023 were in the business of picking passengers from Iyana Church Bus Stop, with a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 497 AA. The suspects ran out of luck when some persons recognized them and raised alarm.

On receipt of the information, police officers from Sabo Division raced to the scene, arrested the suspects and recovered their operational vehicle.

Investigation revealed that after the suspects picked up passengers, they would deliberately start an argument about dollars in the boot, making unsuspecting victims intervene in the argument, and subsequently get defrauded.

The suspects will be arraigned at the conclusion of the investigation.
