The Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has unveiled new policing strategies for the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP, according to the FPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, publicized the new strategy aimed at achieving operational successes and re-igniting public trust, on Friday, 23rd June, 2023, during the inaugural conference with Strategic Police Managers comprising members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and other Heads of Police Formations in the country, at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He noted that the highlights of the IGP’s policing vision include; upholding the sanctity of the legal framework of the Nigeria Police Force; tackling the menace of crimes and criminality with the establishment of a specialized Quick Intervention Squad comprising combat ready Police Mobile Force personnel with effective and enhanced training in crisis de-escalation and violent crime reduction strategies; leveraging cutting-edge tools, data analytics, and intelligence networks for a robust and effective human and technical intelligence gathering process to enhance Police capacity; and strengthened inter-agency collaboration.

“Similarly, the new policing vision focuses on enhancing the Police training curriculum with special focus on attitudinal and behavioural changes;  improved welfare and resuscitating the Police Officer Support Unit (POSU) of the Police Medical Services to serve as confidential support and counseling facility for all police officers; implementing a new Recognition and Reward system to better motivate and encourage our dedicated personnel; and community policing, through a more vibrant engagement of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and the establishment of a Citizens Engagement Focus Group”, Adejobi stated.

Meanwhile, the IGP has appointed CP Olatunji Disu as his Principal Staff Officer. CP Disu holds a B.A English (Education), PGD International Relations and Strategic Studies, MSc. Public Administration,  Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation & Criminal Intelligence and MSc. Criminology, Security & Legal Psychology.

Disu has attended several courses both within and outside Nigeria, and is a Member of several professional bodies including the International Academy of Forensics (IAF), National Association of Investigative Specialist, United States of America (NAIS), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) amongst others.

He is Third Dan Blackbelter, and celebrated medalist in Judo who has served in various administrative, investigative, and operational capacities in the Force including as Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Lagos, and DCP Intelligende Response Team (IRT), FIB, Abuja.

Also, other aides appointed by the IGP including CSP Ganiyu Adebowale as Personal Assistant (PA-IGP), SP Adewale Ajibuwa as Chief Protocol Officer (CPO-IGP), DSP Sheriff Lawal as Aide-de-Camp (ADC-IGP) and DSP Olawole Ogunwusi J. as Chief Security Officer (CSO-IGP).

“The Inspector-General of Police reassures citizens that the Nigeria Police Force under his command will symbolize excellence, integrity, and compassion.

“He urged the citizens to collaborate with the Police to shape a future where justice triumphs, the vulnerable find solace, citizens go about their lawful businesses without fear of insecurity or molestation, and where every citizen can truly believe in the power of law enforcement”, Adejobi stated.

The Police IG said his administration would embrace innovation and technology as powerful allies in the fight against crime.

According to him, the world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and so the Nigeria Police should adapt to the evolving landscape of crime.

He said criminals were presently more sophisticated, more organised and more ruthless than ever before.

Mr Egbetokun said the Nigeria Police would leverage cutting-edge tools, data analytics and intelligence networks to stay one step ahead of the criminals, seeking to disrupt the peace of the country.

The I-G said this would be achieved through a robust and effective human and technical intelligence gathering process to enhance the capacity of personnel.

“By harnessing the power of technology, we can make our streets safer, our investigations more efficient and our communities more resilient.

“We cannot afford to be reactive; we must be proactive in our approaches by equally collaborating with other security agencies, both domestic and international to strengthen our intelligence network,” he added.

He said his administration would also prioritise the enhancement of the Nigeria Police training curriculum with special focus on attitudinal and behavioural changes for new recruits and reorientation programme for serving officers.

The police boss said the idea was to further refine the perception of officers to concepts of human rights, rule of law and citizen-focused policing.

He said the new training curriculum would be produced with inbuilt tests, designed to weed out individuals with negative mentality and high tendency for violence from recruits.

IG said his administration would also make a case for improved welfare for officers to ensure the availability of resources, trainings and support necessary to carry out their duties professionally.

“To this end, my administration will intensify collaboration with relevant stakeholders for the resuscitation of the Police Officer Support Unit (POSU) of the Police Medical services.

“This will serve as a confidential support and counseling facility for all police officers,” Mr Egetokun said.

 

President Tinubu breaks silence on suspended CBN Governor, Emefiele.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has broken his silence on the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He spoke during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in the French capital, Paris.

The President said the nation’s financial system under the suspended Emefiele was rotten.

He said many Nigerians abroad were unable to send money to their relatives because of the multiple exchange rates, saying all that have become a thing of the past.

“Then the financial system was rotten. Few people making bags of our money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows… but that is gone now, is gone.

“The man is in the hands of authorities, something is being done about that, they will sort themselves out.”

My associates thought I was joking when I said subsidy was gone – Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu has said some of his associates and friends thought he was joking when he declared that the age-long subsidy era was gone.

Tinubu disclosed this during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit at the French capital, Paris.

He noted that he assembled his friends to put his plans and speeches together but noticed that they had left the issue of subsidy removal out. He however said he was determined to end the regime because it stunted the growth of the nation.

The President said: “Some countries were bleeding us. Courage was missing. Sometimes I became an advocate for it. Remove this thing but God gave me the opportunity when I danced around, strategised with my team,

” we won the Presidency and the day I was declared the winner I fell almost sick with joy. “The few friends visited me rejoicing, so I asked the question, you asked me to bring this trophy, this victory what do you do with it?

“I brought it. I won. We must achieve it. We must change Nigeria with it and then Wale Edun and co, we started debating, putting my speech together without the question of subsidy. I got to the podium, I was possessed with courage and I said subsidy is gone.

“They thought it was a joke of the century until I called NNPC. We are tired of feedings smugglers, making few people rich, and subsidizing the next-door neighbor.

“I met with the President of the Benin Republic today, everybody is equal now, we are friends. We are conjoined twins joined by the hips, how we will separate each other is with this fuel subsidy. Let us see whether we will survive or not but we are going to survive you”.

 

“We’re working on palliatives for subsidy removal-Tinubu.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured that palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal were being worked out.

He spoke during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in the French capital, Paris.

The President in his inaugural speech said the subsidy era was gone because there was no budgetary allocation for it.

On how he convinced Organised Labour to shelve the planned protest over removal of subsidy, he said: “You want money increase in palliative, transportation what are you protesting about? Are you sharing part of the subsidy? if you protest, I will join you and protest and they stopped. No protest.

“Palliative we will get but we have to save the money in order to embark on palliatives,” he said.
