Newly elevated officers and men of the Zone ‘A’ command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Ikeja, Lagos state have been charged to double their productivity to justice the confidence the Service reposed in them by their promotions.

ACG. K.A. Sadiq who is in charge of the zone made the charge at a colourful ceremony to decorate the newly promoted officers on Tuesday, 6 June in Ikeja also encouraged the retired colleagues who had attained the mandatory year for retirement to ensure they remain active in their private lives and embrace the new phase in their lives.

In his opening remark, ACG. Sadiq maintained that the ministry of Interior, the CDCFID and NIS management believe in improving the welfare of Immigration Officers and men by recognizing their potentials and rewarding them by promoting those eligible when due.

He stated that as a strategic paramilitary agency saddled with the responsibility of migration management and maintaining the nation’s internal security, the need for a motivated work force cannot be overemphasized.

He disclosed that officers within the Immigration Assistant, Inspectorate, Superintendent and Comptroller cadres sat for the 2022/2023 promotion examination in the zone.

His words, “Today, I’m delighted to inform you that a total of 318 officers were promoted and 15 other ranks were upgraded on merit by seniority.
“This comprises 57 Inspectors upgraded to Assistant Superintendent 11, 45 Assistant Superintendent 1 promoted to Deputy Superintendent, 46 Deputy Superintendents promoted to Superintendent, 56 Superintendent promoted to Chief Superintendent, 42 Assistant Comptroller promoted to Deputy Comptroller inclusive of the officers being decorated with their new ranks today.

“Moreso, the rapidly changing dynamics of migration and the need to encourage foreign direct investment into the nation’s economy by a foreigner requires a motivated Immigration officer with the requisite professional knowledge, experience and competency to effectively provide leadership directed at managing such dynamism.

“The acting CGI therefore, holds the firm conviction that all of you, the newly promoted senior officers sited here will deploy your wealth of experience to fit into your new schedule.

To whom much is given, much is expected. To this end, some of you shall be deployed to critical duty post where your strength of character and professionalism shall be optimally tested.

“Therefore, you must demonstrate sound professional judgment in all your decisions as you are responsible for your actions and inactions. I trust you that you will not fail the service and the nation in the new responsibility that your new rank shall impose on you.

“Interestingly, another set of promotion is expected later in the year as notice to this effect has been circulated. And under the guidance of the governing board, the Service shall continue to ensure that appropriate processes are implemented to identify and promptly elevate deserving officer with an unblemished service record for promotion.”

While praying that the newly promoted officers would sustain and continually exhibit those professional virtues that led them to their new positions in their professional journey, he urged their retired colleagues to ensure they remain active and embrace the new phase of life.

ACG Sodiq decorated the newly promoted officer, ACI Sunday Soyombo.

Comptroller Adesokan decorated one of the newly  promoted officers.

In his remark, the Assistant Corps Marshal, zonal commanding officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Gilbert Igbokwe, charged the newly promoted officers to redouble their efforts to justify their promotions by the Service, adding that to whom much is given, much is expected from him. He urged the retired officers to enjoy their retirement.

In his goodwill message, the zonal controller, Federal Fire Service, Zone ‘F’ South west, ACGF Chika Eugene Njoku also encouraged the newly promoted officers to discharge their new responsibilities with more professionalism, adding that promotion is a call for more responsibility.

promoted officers, DCI. S.T. Rotibi, expressed profound gratitude to the Service for their promotion and promised that they would not fail the service and the nation.
