The detailed programme for the inauguration ceremony of Nigeria’s 16th democratically elected President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been unveiled.

 

The event, taking place today at the prestigious Eagle Square in Abuja, promises to be a grand affair attended by esteemed dignitaries, including heads of state from various countries. To ensure a seamless and organized inauguration, the following order of events has been meticulously planned:

PROGRAMME FOR THE SWEARING IN OF THE NEW PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON MAY 29TH 2023.

1. Invited dignitaries to be seated at Eagles Square.

2. The President Elect and Vice President Elect arrives.

3. Outgoing President (PMB) and VP (PYO) arrives.

4. Outgoing VP takes his last salute.

5. Outgoing President takes his last salute.

6. Outgoing ADC hands over old military colours to Outgoing President.

7. Prayers.

8. CJN will be invited to swear in new VP.

9. CJN swears in the new President and Commander in Chief of the Arned Forces, Federa Republic of Nigeria.

10. Immediate Past President (PMB) hands over new colours to the new President & instrument of office.

11. Former President leaves for Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport enroute Katsina (using a different car that brought him to the venue).

12. PMB takes off for Katsina (With 001 for the last time).

13. The new President takes his first salute and inspect the Guards of Honour.

14. New President addresses the nation for the first time as President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

15. President drives to the Villa (using the official vehicle that brought PMB to the venue)

16. New President host visiting Presidents/ Head of State/ head of delegation/ Ambassadors / Development Partners/ former Ministers/ members of NASS especially

17. In the evening, there will be a state banquet to toast to the new President.

18. Work starts on May 30, 2023.

Peter Obi Speaks On Attending Tinubu’s Inauguration.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has said he would not be attending the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.The the former Governor of Lagos State would be sworn in as the 16th democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today at Eagle Square in Abuja.

   

Speaking to reporters in Abuja through his media aide, Tai Obasi, the LP flagbearer said it will be ‘extremely weird’ of him to attend Tinubu’s swearing-in when he is challenging his electoral victory in court. Obasi noted that even though his principal is a very humble and reasonable man who is always looking for peace and unity in the country at all costs, he cannot act that weird and unreasonable.

The media aide, however, failed to confirm if the Labour Party leadership and Obi were sent individual invitations to the swearing-in ceremony. He said, “My principal is a very humble and reasonable man who is always looking for peace and unity in the country at all costs. But it will be extremely weird for him to attend a ceremony of a man whose election victory he is challenging in court.

“My principal cannot act that weird and unreasonable. I can’t confirm if he receives an invitation to the swearing-in ceremony. But I am telling you that you can’t see him there.” Speaking further, Obasi also denied rumuors that the former Anambra State governor is planning a demonstration ahead of today’s inauguration. He said, “I don’t know where that report is coming from. We don’t know anything about it or who is behind the proposed protest. But I can categorically tell you that my principal is not aware of anything.

Tinubu Vows to Fulfill Promises To Nigerians at the Inauguration Dinner.

President-elect, Bola Tinubu, has expressed his unwavering commitment to delivering on his promises to revive Nigeria’s growth trajectory, despite the challenges of corruption, poverty, and policy inconsistencies.

Speaking at the Inauguration Dinner/Gala Night organised by the Presidential Transition Council (PTC) at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Sunday night, Tinubu emphasised that his administration would not resort to excuses for any potential failures.

     

Addressing the gathering of invited Heads of State from around the world, Tinubu highlighted the valuable lessons that Nigeria’s democracy has taught Africa and the world at large.

 He praised the resilience, determination, courage, and unity in diversity exhibited by Nigerians, affirming that his administration would build upon the strengths.

Tinubu also humorously noted that even after his predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, departs for his hometown, he would always be accessible when needed.

 “Here is a country that has faced numerous challenges but has never crumbled. Despite our differences in tongues and tribes, we remain united.

   

“We acknowledge the need to combat corruption, poverty, policy inconsistencies, and other issues that plague us. However, I do not seek pity; I willingly took up this role, campaigned for it, and I assure you that I will fulfill my obligations without any excuses,” Tinubu said.

In his farewell address, outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests who honoured Nigeria with their presence, underscoring the successful electoral process that restored power to the Nigerian electorate.

“I congratulate my fellow Nigerians for recognizing the power of their votes. I eagerly anticipate my return to my hometown and the tranquility of my cattle and sheep, which are far easier to manage than my fellow countrymen,” Buhari said.

 The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, joined by Tinubu, incoming First Lady Remi Tinubu, Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, and his wife, unveiled a book titled, “Renewed Hope, Greater Together” during the event.

 The grand occasion attended by the outgoing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, witnessed the attendance of several notable world leaders, including the Presidents of South Africa, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Burundi, Liberia, Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Gabon, as well as the Prime Minister of Morocco, Vice President of Venezuela, and many others. Police Reacts to Court’s Removal of IGP, Reveals Next Move.

The Nigerian Police Force headquarters has issued a statement urging Nigerians to dismiss rumours of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, being sacked by a Federal High Court ruling in Awka.

     

The court ruled that the IGP is fired because he reached the legal retirement age of 60 in March 2023.

Reacting, the Force headquarters, the IGP has the right to appeal the decision, and thus the rumours of his dismissal are false and baseless. The statement, titled “IGP Not Sacked, Disregard Trending False News,” was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.

The statement reads as follows:

“The Nigeria Police wishes to urge the general public to disregard the false news making the rounds on social media alleging the sack of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba by a Federal High Court in Awka.

“The said judgment is subject to appeal and the alleged news is thus false, unfounded, and perceived to be the handiwork of mischief makers. IGP Alkali was appointed in a letter-number SGF.20/S.6/83 dated 30th Nov 2021 for a 4-year tenure and his stay in office is within the purview of his appointment. It is imperative to note that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, dismissed a suit that sought to compel the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, to vacate his office on March 1, 2023.

“The Federal High Court, in the judgment delivered by Justice J. K. Omotosho, held that going by the provision of Section 7 (6) of the Police Act, 2020, anyone appointed as the IGP has a statutorily recognized four-year tenure.”

Adejobi also explained that;  It described the IGP’s four-year tenure as sacrosanct, stressing that his retirement as the IGP had nothing to do with age or years of service. It is pertinent to state that maintaining the four-year period for individuals appointed as IGP is being institutionalized by the provisions of the law, not on personal grounds to favour an individual, but for the general betterment of the Nigeria Police Force.

Consequently, members of the public are on this notice advised to ignore the false news making the rounds on social media. IGP Usman Alkali Baba remains the Inspector-General of Police and is duty-bound to execute the responsibilities of the office in accordance with extant laws. Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police reaffirms the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police to the improvement of policing services within the country as well as the entrenchment of professionalism and community-oriented policing.

 I’ll Probe N241bn Debt, Abba Gida-Gida Fires First Shot At Ganduje.

The incoming governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yusuf (popularly known as Abba Gida Gida), has vowed to probe the N241billion inherited from the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Yusuf said the handover notes submitted by Ganduje through the outgoing Secretary to the State Government was not enough and very scanty.

     

He also criticised Ganduje for “departing from established democratic” practice in jetting out of the state and not personally handing over the state government to him. “The handover notes not enough for us. It is a very scanty note. The transition committee report was also very scanty.

“Nothing we can do as representatives of the state, we can’t refuse to collect what was given to us. We will look at it. Where we are satisfied, we will take action. Where we are also not satisfied, we will also take action accordingly.

“It is so disheartening that the government left a debt profile of over N241billion for us. Where are we going to source the money? The IGR they talk about is nothing to write home about. The money they realized through Kano Internal Revenue Service was nothing to write home about. Why the use of so many consultants? Just like rain conduit for the resources of people Kano state. We are going to look at it. I am not satisfied!

“I pray Almighty Allah reward him (Ganduje) according to what he did for the state. We are not here to steal money, we are not here to grab their lands. We are here to work and by the grace of Allah, we will achieve all we set out to achieve within the next four years.”
