National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)  arrested two suspects for attempting to export 14.4 kilograms of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two suspects going for lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos for attempting to export 14.4 kilograms of cocaine concealed in lace and ankara fabrics.
Identified as Ariyibi Ahmed Olaseinde, a widower and Mrs. Akanbi Silifat Tunrayo, a divorcee, the suspects were said to have been arrested separately during outward clearance.
The Director Media and Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi made the disclosure in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement,  ” Ariyibi was intercepted on Thursday, April 20, at the screening point of MMIA Terminal 2 during outward clearance of Qatar Airways passengers travelling from Lagos via Doha to Medina, Saudi Arabia. When his carry-on bag was checked, four sets of white lace material with linings of substance that tested positive to Cocaine weighing 11.50kg were discovered.

” The suspect who claimed to be a widower and an advertising practitioner said his original plan was to ingest the drugs but had to change his mind after failed attempts to swallow bitter cola, which he was using to practice the process. He is expected to be paid N1,800,000 upon successful delivery of the consignment in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

” The previous day, Wednesday April 19, NDLEA officers at the Terminal 2 of the airport also arrested Mrs. Silifat Tunrayo Akanbi with 2.90kg cocaine during outward clearance of Qatar Airways passengers from Lagos via Doha to Jedda, Saudi Arabia. A search of her hand luggage led to the discovery of six sheets of cocaine weighing 2.90kg concealed in ankara fabrics.
” Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a divorcee and a trader who used to hawk cloths around Awoyaya area of Ajah, Lagos.

” Based on information in her statement, a follow up operation that lasted through the night into the early hours of Thursday, April 20, was carried out, during which the person who recruited her, Alhaji Adebayo Adeola Wasiu was arrested at No 28, Olateju Street, Mushin, Lagos. Adebayo is the managing director of B&T Travel Agency”.

 

According to eyewitnesses, the dead victims were the bus driver, two children, and three women.The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident.

The Lagos Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), Lucas Oguntade said rescue efforts were still ongoing.
He explained that while some casualties were recorded, some victims were rescued and have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“As we speak, the rescue operation is not yet concluded. There are some deaths, while some are rescued and have been taken to the hospital,” Oguntade told Channels Television.
On the cause of the crash, he stated that the idea of speeding is from a layman’s perspective.

The official, however, explained that the Commission has begun a probe into the incident with a view to avoiding a reoccurrence soon.“From the look of things, we know that the vehicle somersaulted and resulted in this high level of casualties.
“Meanwhile, the investigation must be concluded before we can now give a holistic appraisal of the incident,” he added.

Zamfara Emir Suspended For Conferring Chieftaincy Title On Bandits’ Leader Reinstated.

Governor Bello Matawalle’s led government of Zamfara State has reinstated the Emir of Birnin Yandoto, Aliyu Garba, who he suspended months ago for conferring a chieftaincy title to a wanted bandits kingpin, Ado Aliero.
The development was confirmed in a statement made available to newsmen by the secretary to the state government, Kabiru Balarabe.

According to the statement, the suspended Emir was reinstated because he was not found guilty of the allegations against him after conferring the traditional title of the rank of Fulani leader on Aliero.

Tinubu To Arrive In Nigeria On Monday Evening.

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Monday evening after spending one month in Paris, France.
This Media platform recalls that Tinubu left the country for France on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, to rest and plan the transition programme ahead of his inauguration on May 29.

35 Killed As Troops Engage Boko Haram Terrorists In Sambisa Forest.

No fewer than thirty-five (35) Boko Haram terrorists were killed in a recent operation in Sambisa Forest by the troops of the Nigerian Army and some special forces.
The operation was confirmed in a statement on Sunday by a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama.

It was reported that the Nigeria Army Troops of the 21-Armored Brigade, Bama, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and 199 Special Forces Battalion collaborated with Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to hunt down the terrorists who have been lurking in the dreaded forest to carry out their devilish attack in the Northern part of the country.

The troops were reportedly headed by one Brig. Gen. Victor Unachukwu, a.k.a Emperor.

The troops overpowered the terrorists after about 30 minutes of the gunbattle, killing 18 of them and recovered several motorcycles, AK 47 rifles and an Anti Aircraft gun.

The astute police officer and professional public relations practitioner, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has taken to his official Twitter handle to react to a viral photo of a policeman putting on a jean, holding a gun, and then standing in between the road while on duty.

Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who was quite dissatisfied with the unprofessional dress of the young officer, stated that the matter should be taken seriously because they don’t allow such dress among the officers.

According to him, “Ben, you should take this up. We don’t allow or encourage our men on patrol to dress like this.” This is not allowed. Any policeman on patrol or stop and search should be in complete uniform. “That is the authority to flag down and/or park any vehicle.”
Speaking further, he said, “I don’t know why many of them don’t like putting on uniforms.” I can wear my uniform to any gathering or party if permitted to do so. “No tactical team is actually permitted to mount a point and be doing stop and search.”
