Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of PDP has been officially declared the winner of the 2023 Adamawa State Governorship election, for a second term in office.
As announced by the returning officer of the election.

 

Ahmadu Fintiri of the PDP scored a total of 430, 821 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Aisha Binani who got 396,788.

IG Baba Orders Immediate Withdrawal Of Mohammed Barde, CP On Election Duty, In Adamawa.

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police Alhaji Alkali Baba has ordered that the Commissioner of Police on election duty in Adamawa State, Mohammed Barde be withdrawn from the state with immediate effect.

   

In a statement signed by the Force Spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, who said the IGP has also ordered that the Commissioner of Police in charge of Gombe State, CP Etim Equa to immediately proceed to Adamawa State for election security of the yet-to-be-concluded supplementary governorship poll.

While stating that the IGP is committed to a free and fair process.

Adejobi also noted that the IGP is yet to receive any letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking the probe and prosecution of its embattled Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa, Hudu Yunusa Ari.

UK Unemployment Rises, As Cost-of-living Crisis increases.

UK unemployment edged higher in the three months to the end of February, official data showed Tuesday, as the economy continues to be impacted by high inflation.

The rate increased to 3.8 percent from 3.7 percent in the three months to the end of January, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.

The ONS said the increase “was driven by people unemployed for up to six months”.

Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics, said the number of days lost to strikes picked up again in February.

Public and private sector workers have been striking since last year to try and win increases to pay, whose value has been eroded by elevated inflation.

“Pay continues to grow more slowly than prices, so earnings are still falling in real terms,” Morgan said.

He added that while job vacancies have fallen, they “remain at very high levels”.

You may recall that, on Sunday, “the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was forced to halt the results-collection process after the Adamawa REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari, announced Senator Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress to be the victor of the election-devoid of-results.”

On Politics Today on Channels TV following his triumph, “Fintiri called the Sunday event a shame and said it would be too early to say whether those responsible would face legal action.”

He declared, “Everyone has learnt their lesson; INEC itself has learned their lesson as an umpire; repair their mistake so they can preserve the institution.

The Police also became involved in the entire drama; it is regrettable; it is a disgrace. If they aren’t prosecuted, I’ll pursue legal action against them. Time will tell whether or not these people will be charged.” Vanguard reports.

In response to a question on what the people of Adamawa state may expect from him in his second term as governor, “Fintiri said they should be prepared for a more credible performance than what his first term produced.”

“The governor had expressed his gratitude to the people of Adamawa State for voting for him a second time in a speech at the state house following his reelection.”

“For ensuring that the people’s mandate was not subverted,” he praised INEC.

Tinubu Camp Accepts Defeat in Adamawa, As Fintiri Emerged the Winner Of the Poll.

The camp of the ‘President-elect’, Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has welcomed defeat in the Adamawa State governorship election after the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, emerged the winner of the poll.

 

The returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mohammed Mele, on Tuesday in Yola, the state capital, declared Governor Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the governorship poll after completing the collation of results of the supplementary election held on Saturday, April 15.

According to the returning officer, Fintiri polled a total of 430,861 to defeat the APC candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, who came second with a total of 398,788 votes.

Court stops PDP from Suspending  Wike, others for Anti-Party Activities.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from suspending or expelling Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and State Executive Members of the PDP in Rivers State over alleged anti-party activities.

   

In his judgment, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that the fears of Wike and other members of the PDP were well founded, and that suspending or expelling them will amount to the breach of their rights to freedom of association.

The judge, therefore, stated it is in the power of the court to grant redress to persons who have well established acts that would amount to the infringement of their rights.

FG Launches 5-year Strategic Plan To Tackle Insecurity.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has launched a five-year strategic plan to address internal security across the country.

     

Aregbesola stated this in his remarks on Tuesday at the launching of the Five Year Strategic Plan of the Ministry and its Services/Board in Abuja.

Aregbesola noted that the plan would capitalise on the Ministry’s strengths and position to significantly impact the critical issues bothering Nigeria’s internal security.

Eight kidnapped Kaduna Students Escape from Kidnappers Den.

Kaduna Government on Tuesday said eight female students who were kidnapped by terrorists on Monday 3rd April 2023 in the Awon general area of Kachia LGA of the state have escaped from their abductors.

Kaduna Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security and Home Affairs said this in a statement.

According to him, the students escaped from a forest around the Kaduna – Niger interstate boundaries and walked for days before arriving at a location (kept undisclosed for security reasons) where they were harboured.
