BREAKING: Widow of Nigeria’s first military head of state, Lady Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, is dead.
Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, the wife of late Nigerian head of state, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, is dead.
She was born on 21st November, 1923, Lady Ironsi was First Lady of Nigeria from January 16, 1966 to July 29, 1966.
The former first lady passed on Monday at 97. She was supposed to be 98 on November 21, Following the death of her husband, Chief Mrs. Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, never re-married.
A close family friend confirmed that she died at 5.00am on Monday, exactly a day after her friend, age mate and wife of the former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Adanma Okpara, died.
She was the widow of Gen. Johnson Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi, who was the Supreme Commander of the National Military Government and the first Nigerian military head of state.
Who was killed in Ibadan on the 29th of July 1966 in a counter-coup led by Gen. Murtala Mohammed, also deceased. According to reports, his son, Amb Thomson Aguiyi- Ironsi said he will be communicating soon.
