A drunk Police inspector reportedly shot dead five persons, injured four others yesterday evening in Enugu State.

It was gathered that the policeman was inebriated when he opened fire at RC Lotto Company at the Golf Estate, GRA.

The Enugu State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said the officer, attached to the RC Lotto Company at the Golf Estate, GRA, has been arrested.

According to him “Four of the persons said to have sustained gunshot injury are receiving treatment.

“Five others whose injuries were critical have been confirmed dead by doctors and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,”

Governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was in a state of shock when he visited the injured victims at Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital.

The Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, said the governor empathised with the victims and wished them speedy recovery.

Ugwuanyi announced that his administration would bear the medical expenses, as he  deposited some money with the hospital.
