The Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu has charged Nigeria police officers in Ogun state Command to be professional in discharge of their duties.

IGP Adamu said this during a moral boasting visit to the Command Headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta on Thursday 26th of November 2020.

His visit was as a result of the recent #EndSARS protest nationwide which later amplified into looting, killing and wanton destruction of public and private properties.

Adamu said the Police Officers are to perform their duties lawfully, explaining that there is need for them to be law abiding in discharging their duties without any intimidation.

He lamented on the negative effects of the protests to officers, he said that their morals  have drastically been affected .

IGP said “Be vigilant in carrying out your duties and do not accept any form of intimidation from anyone,as such will not be tolerated.”

Therefore, The Police Boss encouraged the policemen to go out without any fears in discharging their lawful duties , He also added that they will ensure the safety of Officers the priority.

He noted that the federal Government has approved another salary scale for the Nigerian Police including health insurance after retirement.

IGP also said Government has approved an extension to all Officers, including those retired and the salary structure have been reviewed also in all ranks,” he disclosed.

The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, Edward Ajogun thanked the IG for his moral support to the officers of the Command, promising that they will ensure to carry out and discharged their duties effectively.

According to him, ” The Command actually witnessed low morale amongst its officers, arising  from the way of protesters chased around, killed and burnt policemen, their stations and properties, excitedly celebrated  the savagery  and cannibalism on social media.waus, But as you have directed, the Command  has bounce back. We are back to our winning ways, and are visible everywhere  on the State”.

“I have reminded  the men that one of the lessons from the #EndSARS Protest is that they must be more friendly with the members of the public, indeed  more serviceable to them, I have also warned against searching phones and laptops on the roads and extortion. Alleged  offences  must not be settled on the streets, charge rooms are not on the streets but at the police stations.”

“They must also avoid torture, unlawful imprisonment, intimidation and harassment of innocent citizens on the roads, while not compromising their statutory duties of prevention and detection of crime”.
